Roblox’s newer child account system gives parents more control over what their children can play, who they can communicate with, how much they can spend, and how long they can use Roblox.

You do not need to abandon an existing adult Roblox account or create another parent profile. An adult who already has a Roblox account can verify their age, add parent privileges, and link that account to the child’s Roblox account.

Before You Start: Linking Is Not the Same as Merging

It is important to understand that Roblox does not merge the contents of the two accounts.

After linking:

  • The adult keeps their existing Roblox account.
  • The child keeps their own separate account.
  • Items, Robux, game progress, badges and friends are not transferred.
  • The adult gains access to parental controls and selected activity information for the child.
  • Each person continues signing in with their own username and password.

The linked setup is designed to let a parent manage the child’s Roblox experience without repeatedly signing in to the child’s account.

What You Will Need

Before beginning, make sure you have:

  • Access to the adult’s existing Roblox account.
  • Access to the child’s Roblox account.
  • An adult who is at least 18 years old.
  • A government issued ID, credit card or another age verification method offered by Roblox.
  • Access to the email address being used during the linking process.

Roblox requires the adult account holder to complete an age check before parent privileges can be enabled. The available verification method may include facial age estimation, identification or a credit card, depending on the account and region.

Step 1: Sign In to the Child’s Roblox Account

Begin by signing in to the Roblox account that the child will use.

On a computer, open Roblox in a web browser and log in with the child’s username and password.

On the mobile app, open Roblox and make sure the child’s account, rather than the adult’s account, is currently signed in.

Before continuing, check that the birthday recorded on the account is accurate. Roblox uses the account age to determine which content and communication features are available by default.

Step 2: Open the Child’s Settings

On a computer:

  1. Select the gear icon in the upper right corner.
  2. Choose Settings.

On a mobile device:

  1. Select More near the bottom of the app.
  2. Open Settings using the gear icon.

The wording and location of individual buttons can vary slightly as Roblox updates its website and mobile app.

Step 3: Select Parental Controls

Inside the child’s settings, open Parental Controls.

Look for the option labelled Add Parent and select it.

Roblox will now begin the process of connecting an eligible adult account to the child’s account.

Step 4: Sign In With the Adult’s Existing Account

When Roblox asks whether the parent already has an account, choose the option to use an existing account.

Sign in using the adult account’s own username or email address and password.

Do not enter the child’s account details again, and do not create another adult account unless the parent genuinely does not already have one.

The existing adult profile, including its avatar, inventory and game history, can be used as the parent account. Roblox says an adult account with parent privileges can also continue to explore and play Roblox normally.

Step 5: Complete the Adult Age Check

Follow the instructions shown by Roblox to confirm that the adult account holder is at least 18.

Depending on what Roblox offers, the adult may be asked to verify their age using:

  • Facial age estimation.
  • A government issued identity document.
  • A credit card.

Complete the verification only through the official Roblox website or app. Do not submit identification or payment information through links sent by other players, social media accounts or unofficial websites.

Once the age check is completed successfully, the page should refresh or move to the next stage automatically.

After age verification, Roblox will display a request to link the adult account to the child’s account.

Review the accounts shown on the screen and select Agree or the equivalent confirmation button.

The adult account should now have parent privileges for that child’s account.

Alternative Method: Use the Roblox Permission Email

In some situations, Roblox sends the parent an email asking for permission before a child can change a feature or setting.

The adult can use that email to establish the link:

  1. Open the Roblox permission email.
  2. Select the supplied account linking option.
  3. Choose Use Existing Account.
  4. Sign in to the adult’s Roblox account.
  5. Complete the required age check.
  6. Select Agree to link the accounts.

The email address associated with the adult Roblox account may need to match the address that received the permission request.

Step 7: Confirm the Child Appears in the Parent Account

Sign in to the adult’s Roblox account and open:

Settings → Parental Controls

The linked child should appear in this section. When more than one child is linked, the parent can select the relevant child before changing any settings.

Roblox permits multiple eligible parents to link their separate adult accounts to the same child account. Parents should not share a single Roblox login, because anyone with access to it may be able to alter sensitive account and parental control settings.

Step 8: Review the Child’s Safety Settings

Once the accounts are linked, review the available controls rather than relying only on Roblox’s default settings.

Content restrictions

Open the child’s profile within Parental Controls, then find Content restrictions and Content maturity.

Adjust the content level to suit the child’s age and your household’s rules. Parents may also be able to allow or block particular games, including games that differ from the account’s normal age based selection.

Screen time limits

Open the Screen time section to review usage information and set a daily limit.

Roblox can display a seven day screen time average and information about frequently played experiences.

Spending restrictions

Under Spending restrictions, parents can set a monthly spending limit and choose when to receive transaction notifications.

Roblox notes that its spending limit may not cover every console transaction or gift card redemption, so purchase controls on the console may also be necessary.

Connections and communication

Review the child’s communication, privacy and connections settings. The controls available may depend on the child’s age, verification status, region and account type.

Do not assume that linking the accounts automatically applies every restriction you would prefer. Open each section and confirm its current setting.

What Happens to the Adult Account?

The adult account remains a normal Roblox account, but it now also has parent privileges.

The adult can continue using their own avatar and playing Roblox. However, some account features may behave differently once parent privileges are enabled. For example, Roblox’s web based Account Switcher is documented as being available only to users aged 13 or older whose accounts do not have parent privileges.

What Does Not Transfer to the Child?

Linking the accounts does not move the following from the adult account to the child account:

  • Robux.
  • Avatar clothing or accessories.
  • Limited items or collectibles.
  • Badges and achievements.
  • Saved game progress.
  • Created experiences.
  • Friends or connections.
  • Account ownership or login credentials.

Avoid third party websites or people claiming that they can merge Roblox inventories or transfer account ownership. Roblox recommends using unique passwords and being cautious of phishing sites.

Troubleshooting Common Problems

The Add Parent option does not appear

Confirm that you are viewing Parental Controls from the child’s account. Signing in to the adult account first may show a different screen.

Also verify that the birthday on the child’s account is accurate and that the feature is available for the account’s age and region.

The adult account cannot pass verification

Make sure the adult’s personal information is entered accurately and that any ID or payment method belongs to the adult completing the age check.

Use only the verification choices Roblox displays. When verification repeatedly fails, contact Roblox Support rather than creating multiple accounts with conflicting birth dates.

Sign out of Roblox in the browser, reopen the permission email and choose the option to use an existing account.

Then sign in specifically with the adult account that should receive parent privileges. The account’s email may need to match the email address that received Roblox’s request.

The child is linked, but the controls are not visible

Return to the adult account and open:

Settings → Parental Controls

Select the child’s avatar or username. Some controls are located under expandable categories such as Settings you manage, Content restrictions, Screen time or Spending restrictions.

To remove the connection:

  1. Sign in to the adult account.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Select Parental Controls.
  4. Select the child account.
  5. Select the pencil icon in the upper right corner.
  6. Choose Unlink Accounts.
  7. Confirm the decision.

After unlinking, the adult will no longer be able to manage that child’s parental controls, approve actions or view the associated parental information. The two Roblox accounts themselves will continue to exist separately.

Final Checklist

Before handing the child their device, confirm that:

  • The adult account is listed as a linked parent.
  • The adult account completed the required age check.
  • The child’s birthday is correct.
  • Content maturity has been reviewed.
  • Communication and connection settings have been reviewed.
  • Screen time limits have been considered.
  • Spending limits and notifications have been configured.
  • Both accounts use separate, strong passwords.
  • Two step verification and recovery information have been enabled where available.

The key point is that the adult account is not absorbed into the child’s account. It remains separate and becomes the management account through which the parent can supervise the child’s Roblox experience.
